From the standpoint of an ordinary citizen of Sindh and without getting into the constitutionality, legal nitty-gritty, pros and cons and appropriateness of serving of a contempt of court notice to MQM supremo, Altaf Hussain, by the apex court on December 14, prospects and consequences of its compliance, or, otherwise, the notice simply wrecked havoc on the province.

As reported in the media, major cities of the province, the financial capital of the nation, hub of industrial and business activity, Karachi and Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas, Sukkur, Tando Allahyar and assorted sundry small towns, were subjected to an 'unannounced' strike, where life came to an abrupt grinding halt. Taking a cue from the former law minister, Babar Awan, one can only say, "Notus miliya, Sindh saara hilliya, bunda ghareeb rulliya", (Got the notice that shook the entire Sindh and made the poor suffer). God bless Pakistan!!
